Botanical Family: Cruciferae
Botanical Name: Brassica rapa
Common Names: Par Bor Cai, Chinese Cabbage
Ever wonder why it is called “Par Bor Cai” (literaly “Beat Wife Vegetable”)
This veggie actually “shrink” in volume after cooking. The story go like this: A husband brought back this vegetable from the farm for his wife to cook for dinner. However, this vegetable shrinks a lot after cooking. When the husband saw the portion of vegetables became so much smaller as compared to what he has brought back earlier. He beats his wife thinking that she must have kept a portion of them in order to give to her secret lover. What a hilarious tale right! Don’t take it too seriously.
